How to convert PDF to TIFF
- Drop a PDF onto the drop zone above, or click to choose one.
- Select a Resolution: 96, 150, 200 or 300 DPI. 150 DPI is the default.
- Click Convert to TIFF. Every page is rendered and saved as its own TIFF file.
- Download single pages, or click Download all to get every page in one ZIP archive.
Pages are rendered by pdf.js and written as TIFF by UTIF.js, entirely in your browser. Confidential contracts, invoices and records are never uploaded, and there is no sign-up.
Why convert PDF to TIFF?
PDF is the everyday format for documents, but many professional systems were built around TIFF and still expect it. Typical reasons to use a PDF to TIFF converter:
- Document archives and records management, where TIFF has long been accepted as a stable, lossless image format.
- Fax software and fax-to-email services, many of which send and receive TIFF.
- Court, insurance and medical portals that request page images rather than PDFs.
- Printing and publishing workflows that place pages as images in a layout.
- OCR and imaging tools that read TIFF input.
Choosing a resolution
A PDF page has a physical size; DPI decides how many pixels each inch becomes. Because each TIFF is saved uncompressed at four bytes per pixel, resolution has a big effect on file size.
| DPI | A4 page in pixels (approx.) | Size per page (approx.) | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 96 | 794 × 1123 | 3.6 MB | Screen previews |
| 150 | 1240 × 1754 | 8.7 MB | Reading on screen, general archiving |
| 200 | 1654 × 2339 | 15.5 MB | Fax-quality text, document systems |
| 300 | 2480 × 3508 | 35 MB | Printing, OCR, fine print |
Higher resolutions take longer to render, so for long documents at 300 DPI keep the tab open until every page is done.
Things to know
- The tool creates one TIFF per page, named
-page-1.tiff,-page-2.tiffand so on, rather than a single multi-page TIFF. - The TIFF is an image, so text is no longer selectable or searchable.
- One PDF is converted at a time. To convert only a few pages, remove the others first; for a smaller image format use PDF to PNG or PDF to JPG.
- Password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked before they can be rendered.
Frequently asked questions
Which DPI should I choose?
Use 200 DPI for document and fax systems, 300 DPI for printing or OCR, and 150 DPI for general viewing.
Do I get a multi-page TIFF?
No. Each PDF page becomes a separate TIFF file, and Download all bundles them in a ZIP.
Why are the TIFF files so large?
They are written uncompressed, which keeps them lossless and compatible with almost any TIFF reader. Lower the DPI for smaller files.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Rendering and conversion happen in your browser, and the document never leaves your device.
