PNG to TIFF

Convert PNG to TIFF online, keeping transparency, for print and archive workflows. Free, private and in your browser: files are never uploaded.

Files are processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How to convert PNG to TIFF

  1. Drop your .png files onto the upload area, or click to choose them. You can add several at once.
  2. Click Convert to TIFF.
  3. Save the TIFF files one at a time, or click Download all for a ZIP archive.

Conversion happens entirely in your browser using UTIF.js. Logos, artwork and client graphics stay on your computer; nothing is uploaded and no sign-up is needed.

When you need TIFF instead of PNG

PNG is the go-to lossless format on the web, but print and publishing pipelines have long been built around TIFF. Magazine and book layouts, print-on-demand services, sign and packaging printers, scanning and archive systems, and some medical or legal document platforms request TIFF specifically. Converting PNG to TIFF gives them a file they can place straight into their workflow.

Because both formats are lossless, nothing is lost in the conversion. The TIFF holds exactly the same pixels as your PNG, so screenshots, diagrams, illustrations and text-heavy graphics stay perfectly sharp.

Transparency is preserved

The converter writes RGBA TIFF, which includes an alpha channel. A logo on a transparent background stays transparent in the TIFF, and semi-transparent edges and shadows are kept as they are. This is a key difference from converting to JPG, which would fill the background with white.

Be aware that some older layout or printing programs ignore the alpha channel in TIFF files and show transparent areas as black or white. If that happens, ask your printer which background they prefer, or flatten the image onto a white background before converting.

Why the file gets larger

  • No compression. The TIFF is saved uncompressed, at four bytes per pixel. A 2000 × 2000 pixel PNG becomes about 16 MB, regardless of how simple the image is.
  • PNG compresses well. Flat colours and simple graphics compress extremely efficiently as PNG, so the size jump can be large, sometimes more than 50 times.
  • Maximum compatibility. Uncompressed TIFF avoids any doubt about whether the receiving software supports LZW or Deflate, which matters with older prepress tools.
Tip: Received a TIFF and need it as PNG again? TIFF to PNG converts it back without any loss. For PDF-based print jobs, JPG to PDF also accepts PNG files.

Frequently asked questions

Is PNG to TIFF conversion lossless?

Yes. Both formats are lossless, and the TIFF stores exactly the same pixel values as the PNG.

Does the TIFF keep my transparent background?

Yes. The output is RGBA TIFF with an alpha channel, so transparency is preserved.

Why is the TIFF so much larger than my PNG?

The TIFF is written uncompressed for maximum compatibility, while PNG always applies lossless compression. The image quality is the same.

Can I batch convert PNG files to TIFF?

Yes. Drop in as many PNG files as you need and download the results together as a ZIP.
