Word to HTML

Convert Word to HTML online: turn DOCX documents into clean, semantic HTML for websites and email, with images embedded. Free and private.

Files are processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How to convert Word to HTML

  1. Drop a .docx file onto the upload area or click to select it.
  2. Click Convert to HTML.
  3. Copy the generated HTML into your website, CMS, blog editor or email template, or save it as a file.

The document is converted locally in your browser and is never uploaded to a server, so drafts and internal documents stay private.

Clean, semantic HTML instead of "Word HTML"

Microsoft Word can save a document as a web page, but the result is notoriously messy: it is full of proprietary mso- styles, inline fonts, conditional comments and nested <span> tags that bloat the page and fight with your site's stylesheet. This converter takes a different approach. It reads the meaning of each part of the document and outputs plain, semantic HTML:

In WordIn the HTML
Heading 1, Heading 2 …<h1>, <h2> …
Normal paragraph<p>
Bold / italic<strong> / <em>
Bulleted / numbered list<ul> / <ol> with <li>
Table<table>
Hyperlink<a href>
Picture<img> with the image embedded

Fonts, colours and font sizes are deliberately left out. The HTML takes on the look of the page you paste it into, which is exactly what you want when publishing to a website or content management system.

Common uses

  • Publishing articles written in Word to WordPress, a static site or any CMS without cleaning up formatting by hand.
  • Email newsletters drafted in Word and then pasted into an HTML email builder.
  • Documentation and help pages maintained as Word files by non-technical colleagues.
  • Accessibility: real heading and list elements help screen readers and search engines understand the structure of the page.

Tips and limitations

  • Use heading styles in Word. Only text formatted with built-in Heading styles becomes <h1>–<h6>; text that is merely large and bold becomes a paragraph.
  • Embedded images are included directly in the HTML as data URIs, which keeps everything in one file but makes the code long. For a website, you may prefer to save the images separately, shrink them with Compress Image and link to them.
  • Page layout such as headers, footers, text boxes and columns has no direct HTML equivalent and is not reproduced.
  • Only .docx files are supported; save legacy .doc files as .docx first.

Frequently asked questions

Why are my fonts and colours missing?

The converter intentionally outputs clean, semantic HTML without inline styling, so the content inherits your website's CSS. Add any styling in your stylesheet.

Are images included?

Yes. Pictures in the document are embedded in the HTML, so the output works without any separate image files.

Can I convert the document to PDF instead?

Yes. Use Word to PDF for a fixed-layout version for sharing or printing.
